We are looking for a team leader who will be:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of PHSA, the other BC Health Authorities (HAs) and the BC Ministry of Health, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and responsibility shared by everyone, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reporting to the Director, Agency and External Communications, you are responsible for leading the team’s media strategy, planning and response to promote a strong, positive profile for PHSA and the great work of its services and programs. A strategic thinker, you provide counsel to staff on managing sensitive issues with the preparation of notes, backgrounders, key messages and media spokespeople for interviews.
Ensure the focus of PHSA’s proactive media and social media efforts demonstrates excellence in patient care, research, prevention and partnerships.
Provide strategic communications expertise and guidance on media relations, social media, writing, editing and producing consistent and high-quality communication materials.
Provide advice and media coaching for spokespeople across PHSA, including executive and operational leaders.
Ensure responses to media enquiries balance the duty of public disclosure, while operating in an environment with a high degree of regulatory protection of patient confidentiality and privacy.
Be responsible for the management of issues that have caused, or threaten to cause, media or public concern.
Interact daily, with health authorities and the BC Ministry of Health and Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions to ensure province-wide coordinated responses on shared issues and media inquiries.
Lead and support the wider communications team to develop media releases, social media opportunities, announcements and events.
Act as senior mentor to the team in media relations and issues management to ensure best practices and procedures.
Oversee PHSA’s after-hours media line; oversee monitoring of news media and social media coverage.
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a university degree in communications, journalism or a related field supplemented by seven years of experience in a large, multi-site unionized environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead the development of creative and compelling copy for a variety of applications, including newsletters, print publications and digital channels.
Demonstrated ability to create, execute and evaluate strategic communication plans, and to respond to the needs of stakeholders in sensitive situations supported by acute awareness of the impact of actions.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government, ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
